What is the best way to find CHEAP car insurance?

I am a student and dont have lots of money but the DMV sent me a letter that says I need to get car insurance or my registration will be suspended. I just need the cheapest insurance I can find. I am in California if that helps. any help will be great, thank you.
I don’t live in CA but I started at insurance.com and went from there. GEICO had the best rates for me.
Try phoning everyone in the yellow pages, then take quotes online.
google compare car insurance, should come up with few websites…
There’s no such thing as cheap car insurance. Unless you’re 25 or older, insurance is going to be expensive.
