Can you resume your auto insurance policy one it was canceled?

Can you resume your auto insurance policy one it was canceled? ok it was canceled 5 months ago I wasn’t using the car so I didn’t need insurance at a moment. Now I am planning on using the car again. Can I just call them and ask them to send me a monthly fee and get insurance resumed or do I need to go to insurance place and talk to Insurance sales agent and pay $200 finders fee again? I don’t want to pay those fees again. Is there a way to resume my insurance without those extra fees. I am a California resident.

No, don’t pay a finder’s fee! But if your insurance was canceled, that company will probably not accept you for coverage again … at least until you’ve established 6 months of coverage with another company. You may have to pay higher rates; you may have to find an “assigned risk” insurer. Try Dairyland Insurance, or consult your DMV.

Contact an independent insurance agent in your town. They represent several companies and will help you get the best rate. Your policy cannot be reinstated because the lapse was for more than 30 days. If you are listed on another policy you will still qualify for preferred rates.

You might have to pay a $25 policy fee to the insurance company, but never pay a finders fee.

You can not resume a policy that you canceled. If you knew that you were going to put the car back in service you should have asked about suspension of coverage.

Many companies allow you to suspend all coverage except comprehensive when you certify that the vehicle will not be operated. The comprehensive remains in force to cover you in the event of fire, theft or vandalism and is a small part of the total premium…

    No, you have to reapply.

Likely, they won’t take you back, or if they do, it will cost a lot more.

You will have to start a new policy with a new application. You should call around and get another agent. The $200 finders fee is excessive. Try this site to find the best auto insurance
